Next or Back

This house represents one of the different styles of houses in the Arun Valley. The walls are made from layering rocks extracted from local quarries and mud acting as the mortar. The white exterior is a lime-based plaster shelling that is applied after the walls have dried for some time. Roofs are typically grass thatch but many people around Khandbari have moved onto corrugated sheet metal. The foreground has rice paddy in it, very typical for this area (as for most areas in Nepal).
